Archon Angel – Fallen

Post by Stargazed Magazine »

5/10 Archon Angel is a new Frontiers project with Zak Stevens (Savatage, Trans-Siberian Orchestra) and Aldo Lonobile (Secret Sphere) and is being marketed as a natural follow up to the classic days of Savatage. I don’t find that to be the case, exactly, but it’s a piece of decent melodic metal. Stevens voice is still damn good, the production feels big and powerful, and the songs works all right. But it lacks identity. Nothing really sticks out about it, and it ends up feeling a little like just an ordinary run of the mill melodic metal project. Still, there’s not necessarily not that much wrong with that. I do like Fallen and I am attracted to the heaviness of The Serpent, Lonobiles great guitar solo in Faces Of Innocence and the epicness of Return Of The Storm. But can I remember any of them after they have passed? Not really. Fallen passes through and sounds good and decent, but then it fades away and I can’t remember that much about it at all. After four spins, there are no songs I can hum along to and few titles I recognize when I take a look at the song list. I think that says quite a lot. In the end, I think this album sounds good when I listen to it and in that way, I feel Fallen deserves a good review. But I just can’t shake the feeling that if someone would mention Archon Angel to me a couple of years from now, I might just not remember ever hearing them. Image Artist: Archon Angel
